Catalogue Note

This charming vase is notable for its harmonious proportions and luminous white glaze. A slightly larger vase of this form, but covered in a lavender glaze, from the collection of K.W. Woollcombe-Boyce, was included in the Oriental Ceramic Society exhibition Monochrome Porcelain of the Ming and Manchu Dynasties, London, 1948, cat. no. 39. See also a slightly larger white-glazed vase of similar form, but lacking the reign mark, sold in our New York rooms, 12th March 1981, lot 225.

Vase of this type continued to be made in the succeeding Qianlong reign. See for example a vase covered in a Ru-type glaze, sold in these rooms, 29th November 1979, lot 294.
