Description

  • 30.8 cm, 12 1/8  in.
the flattened ovoid body rising from a stepped foot to a waisted neck and galleried rim, flanked by a pair of elephant handles suspending loose rings, the elephants each with long tusks flanking a curled trunk, worked in low relief around the exterior of the vase with bands of ruyi heads around the shoulder and just above the foot, the neck with a band of circular pommels, all surmounted by a domed cover with similar decoration and an elephant finial atop, the animal standing four square and caparisoned with an elaborate saddle, the stone of an even white tone, wood stand

Condition

The vase is in overall good condition. The footrim is lightly polished along the edge, slightly more on one side of the foot, probably to conceal a chip. There are a few typical insignificant nicks or bruise along the edges of the inner and outer rims of the mouth and cover as well as a minute bruise to the edge of one of the elephant's ears on the knob. ‎The jade colour is slightly more celadon when compared to the catalogue illustration.
