each of bell-shaped form with loop terminal, the base incised with a nastaliq inscription

In generally good condition, minor scratched and dirt, oxidation, as viewed.

Catalogue Note

One seal bears the name of Sombre and the date 1179 AH/1765-66 AD. Sombre’s birth name was Walter Reinhard, he was born in Strasburg, went to India as a sailor on a French ship, deserted at Pondicherry and enlisted in French Army as Sumner or Somers, which the French changed to Sombre. He joined various courts in Oudh, Bhartpur and Jaipur, he later settled in Agra where he died. For more information on him see C.E. Buckland, Dictionary of Indian Biography, N.Y. 1968, p.372. The other seal is inscribed with the name George Hirsht (?) from the British Company and is dated 1186 AH (1772-73 AD); the third one bears the date 1173 AH (1759-60 AD) but no name.
