of decagonal form, standing on ten short legs, each facet decorated with painted muqarnas, the ceramic top decorated with a central star emanating concentric geometrical motifs

Provenance

By repute, gifted by Thami el-Glaoui (1879-1956), Pasha of Marrakesh from 1912 to 1956, to James McBey (1883-1959), a Scottish artist who first travelled to Morocco in 1912. McBey was appointed as the official war artist to the Egyptian Expeditionary force between 1917 and 1918, travelling through Palestine, Gaza and Damascus. He eventually bought a house with his wife in Tangier in 1932, and another in Marrakesh.
