Description

  • 2.2 by 7.6 by 5.6cm.
of hinged scalloped form, decorated in polychrome enamels with alternating cartouches containing floral arrangements and musical instruments, the base and interior of lid with floral bouquets, the cover applied with elaborate diamond mounts

Condition

In good overal condition, minor nicks to enamelling on exterior with minor sections missing, hairline scratches to interior, mounts slightly oxidised, as viewed.

During the nineteenth century, Swiss enamellers were among the many European craftsmen producing works of art for the luxury market in the Middle East. A similar enamelled box with the same silver diamond-set mounts, was sold in these rooms, 24 October 2007, lot 295.
