Description

  • sight of largest 12 3/4 x 8 1/2 in.; 32.4 x 21.6 cm
comprising: a chu-tanzaku print depicting peonies, signed Hiroshige hitsu (Utagawa Hiroshige); a chuban print of a peacock, signed Hiroshige ga (Utagawa Hiroshige); a chuban print depicting a finch and jasmine flowers with a poem, signed Hiroshige (Utagawa Hiroshige); and six oban tate-e woodblock prints of flowers and birds including narcissus, honeysuckle, mums and gentian, each titled and signed Sugakudo (Nakayama Sugakudo). Individually framed. 9 pieces.

Condition

The prints by Sugakudo have good colors and impressions, but each has a minor crease at the center and some small patches of soiling. The peacock print by Hiroshige has darkened considerably (possibly burnt). The peony print has good colors and impression, but the lower left part of the paper has small losses and the top two corners have tape stains. The finch print is in generally good condition by the colors are slightly faded and the paper is soiled.
