Condition
Overall in very good condition. This early example of Marc Newson's iconic "Pod of Drawers" displays stunning visual presence when viewed firsthand. The aluminum surfaces show a subtle irregular, hammered surface, inherent to the production and underscoring the handmade quality of this work. By all accounts the outer surfaces of the cabinet appear in untouched original condition, and display with a rich and nuanced patina inherent with age. The aluminum with scattered minor surface scratches, abrasions and faint scuffing, and with some occasional minor areas of oxidation and discoloration, consistent with age. The reverse side of the Pod with a small area near the top measuring approximately 4 x 1 ½ inches where adhesive tape appears to have been previously applied and removed; this area is only visible upon close inspection and presents slightly brighter than the rest of the Pod. The Pod is outfitted with five working drawers. The cabinet retains the original rubber coating to the three feet. The rubber with some age cracks and losses, consistent with the natural aging of the material. The rubber has been recently professionally and sensitively conserved and stabilized to preserve the integrity of the material. The surfaces underlying the rubber coating have been sensitively toned with a reversible pigment to harmoniously correspond in coloration to the rubber. If desired this pigment can be reversed. A superb example from this seminal series by Marc Newson.
