Catalogue Note

A fine collection of maps mostly from Mortier's edition of Blaeu's townbooks. "Pieter Mortier obtained the plates for the townbooks of Italy, originally made at the order of Joan Blaeu. Mortier re-issued all the volumes in 1704-05 in an atlas comprising four volumes. He added many new maps and plates of his own design, emended several of the Blaeu maps and put his name on almost all of them" (Koeman). A two-sheet folding map is bound at the end: "Recentis Romae Ichnographia et Hypsographia Sive Planta et Facies Ad Magnificentiam qua sub Alexandrio VII P.M. Urbs Ipsa Directa Exculta et Decorata est". Bound with the title-page from Nouveau Theatre D'Italie, volume 4, (Mortier, 1704).
