Catalogue Note

Two large and detailed charts of the northern and southern part of the Red Sea. The surveys were carried out by Commander Moresby, Lieutenant Carless, Captain Elwon and Lieutenant Pinching aboard the Palinurus, a ship of the newly formed Indian Navy. If all four sheets were joined they would produce a map approximately four metres in height, showing the entire western coastline of the Arabian peninsula (and the coast of Egypt and Nubia opposite) in exceptional detail, with many of the place names given in both English and Arabic.
