Description
- Franz Kosler
- Egyptian Girl
- signed and dated Franz Kosler / Cairo 1895 lower right
- oil on panel
- 36 by 23cm., 14 by 9in.
Provenance
Acquired by the family of the present owner circa 1950
Condition
The panel is flat, even, and ensuring a stable support. There are some very fine lines of craquelure, notably in the lower half of the composition and in the figure's face - however barely noticeable. Ultra-violet light reveals areas of uneven varnish which make the surface quite difficult to read. However, some isolated spots of retouching are visible in the extreme lower edge of the panel, including in part of the inscription, possibly addressing paint flaking. Other small spots of cosmetic retouching are also visible in the figure's hair. This work presents very well, is overall in good condition, and is ready to hang.
Presented in a simple wooden frame.
