Designed in the Pre-Columbian style as a crouched deity in an elaborate headdress within a halo, pendant and brooch fittings.By family tradition, given to the owner's aunt as a gift from the actress Merle Oberon, and thence by descent.Born in in Bombay in 1911, Merle Oberon was an icon of the “Golden Age” of Hollywood. Starring in films such as the Scarlet Pimpernel (1934) and Wuthering Heights opposite Laurence Olivier (1939), she was the embodiment of Hollywood elegance and style, and was often connected with some of the pre-eminent names of her age. Her collection spanned the finest jewellers of her era and even appeared in some of her on-screen work, such as Of Love and Desire (1963) and Hotel (1966).
