Description

comprising: a necklace of hinged design, modelled as a pair of stylised bison's horns, inner circumference approximately 345mm, maker's mark, numbered, gross weight approximately 207 grams; and a pair of ear clips of similar design, clip fittings, unsigned, numbered, gross weight approximately 27 grams, case stamped Ilias Lalaounis. 

Condition

Necklace stamped 750 for 18 carat gold, maker's mark for Lalaounis, stamped Greece, numbered A21. Ear clips unsigned, clip fittings stamped 750 for 18 carat gold, numbered M83. Weight of necklace approximately 207 grams, combined weight of ear clips approximately 27 grams. Hinge of necklace in good working order. Clip fittings of ear clips in good working order, closing with good tension. Light scratches to metal surfaces consistent with occasional wear, some very small dents to areas of surfaces. In good condition. Ear clips each measuring approximately 54 x 35mm. Fitted case stamped Ilias Lalaounis.

Catalogue Note

The sinuous design of the present demi-parure is inspired by the use of animal horns in Neolithic jewellery. As part of the 'Dawn of Art' collection, they were unveiled at an international jewellery exhibition in Athens in 1971.
