Stuart Devlin AO CMG, was born in Geelong, Australia in 1931. He trained at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and, in 1958, won a scholarship to study silversmithing under Professor Robert Goodden at the Royal College of Art, London. By 1963 his reputation had strengthened to such a point he was asked to design the new Australian decimal coinage. In 1965 Devlin set up a workshop in Clerkenwell, London and the following year he employed his first craftsman. His work is defined by a wide variety of textures and filigree forms created and designed in his workshop. Between 1975 and 1985 he held a prestigious showroom in Conduit Street London before becoming Prime Warden of the Goldsmiths Company in 1996. He died earlier in 2018 at the age of 86.
