Catalogue Note

Collardeau was an instrument maker who served his apprenticeship with Lenoir before setting up his own workshop. This manual, considered to be the first French manual on the slide rule, was first published in 1820, and it contains a revision of Jomard's slide rule, which Collardeau considered too long to be truly portable. Manufacture of Collardeau's portable rule began in early 1821.
