Catalogue Note

Schooten, a professor in the engineering school in Leiden, made a significant improvement on the tables published by Albert Girard, which were based on a radius of 100,000. Schooten’s tables were reprinted (without acknowledgment) by Jan Jansz. Stampioen, a mathematics teacher in The Hague, who had William II and the sons of Huygens among his pupils, in 1632.
