Catalogue Note

All editions of Gunter's The description of the use of the sector (first edition 1623) and The works are dedicated to his patron, John, Earl of Bridgewater. Both the author and dedicatee had died (in 1626 and 1649 respectively) by the time of the publication of this edition, but it is an interesting association copy with the bookplate of the Bridgewater Library. It is presumably the copy sold in these rooms, 19 March 1951, lot 150.
