Catalogue Note

FIRST EDITION of Adams’s Treatise, featuring a dedication to King George III by Samuel Johnson (J.D. Fleeman, Bibliography of the works of Samuel Johnson, Oxford 2000, II, pp.1146-1147 66.6AG/1). Adams had been appointed in 1760 Mathematical Instrument Maker to George III and in 1769 he supplied the instruments for Cook's voyage. Appended is a priced catalogue of the mathematical instruments for sale in his shop (signed * and treated by ESTC as a separate bibliographical entity); see J.R.
