Catalogue Note

This copy is described by Tomash & Williams as the second edition, or second issue of the first edition, presumably due to the listing of a copy in Wing (C4818a) dated 1677. However this other copy was described as "not found" and there is no trace of it in ESTC, and it is possibly a ghost entry. There is another issue of this work dated 1678 which has on its title "second impression" (ESTC R174006). When originally sold in 1937 this copy was described as being the first edition. This extraordinarily popular work went through at least one hundred editions.
