The parts-issue of The Savoy appeared in wrappers in eight numbers between January and December 1896, in editions varying between 1,500 and 3,000 copies. This collected issue, in cloth bindings in three volumes, was published in late November or early December 1896. Among its many significant contents are eight first printings of poems by W.B. Yeats. The editor Arthur Symons enlisted the controversial illustrator Beardsley from the start (Beardsley had recently been fired from The Yellow Book at the time of the Oscar Wilde trials as a result of his provocative illustrations for Salome).
