Description

- Portrait of a Gentleman, Three-Quarter Length, Wearing a Grey Coat and Long Wig
- 165.1 by 135.3 cm
Condition
The canvas is lined. The painting presents a striking image, with the paint well preserved as seen with the silk the sitter wears. Some details to the canvas have sunken in the background. There are stretcher bar marks along the edges of the canvas, though these are not too distracting. Very minor scuffing is scattered along the edges. Possibly some small spots of restorations are visible at center right on the curtain and at top left on the vase, though these are less than 2in. Inspection under UV reveals an uneven varnish that impedes much reading, though two small spots of retouches fluoresce, one at center left on the ledge and the other right above on the vase. The painting is in overall good condition and ready to hang. Offered in a carved giltwood frame.
