Condition

The actual painting is quite faithful to the catalogue illustration. The painting seems to be in good condition. Under the naked eye: The oval canvas has been relined and no major damages seem to be apparent. A little retouching can be seen in the lower left corner. Covered with a fine craquelure pattern and general thinness of the paint surface can be observed throughout. Tiny retouching can be seen on her nose. Covered with an old varnish layer which is yellowed. Under UV light: The varnish layer fluoresces only partially. A larger area of retouching lower left, as mentioned above; some strengthening of the contours of the figure’s fingers and inside her sleeve and in her left eye, and her nose as mentioned above. Offered with a rectangular carved and giltwood frame with an oval inset (some chips and damages).
