Le tableau paraît en réalité moins foncé que dans l’illustration au catalogue. Le tableau semble être dans un état de conservation satisfaisant. A l’œil nu : Le tableau a fait l’objet d’un rentoilage. On observe quelques légères altérations superficielles le long des bords et des minceurs de la couche picturale dans les parties sombres autour du personnage principal. Trois craquelures verticales restaurées ( ?) peuvent être observées depuis le bord inférieur (visibles dans l’illustration au catalogue). On remarque également quelques légères retouches éparses. A la lampe UV : La couche de vernis fluoresce sauf au niveau des légères restaurations de craquelures, autour du personnage principal. Vendu dans un cadre sculpté et doré (quelques éclats). The actual painting is less dark than the catalogue illustration would suggest. The painting seems to be in a fair condition. Under the naked eye : The canvas has been relined. Some minor superficial damages around the edges and some thinness can be observed in the dark areas around the main figure. Three vertical retouched craquelures (?) can be seen running inwards from the bottom edge (also visible in the catalogue illustration). Otherwise some minor retouchings can be observed scattered throughout. Under UV light : The varnish layer fluoresces apart from minor strengthening of the craquelure pattern around the main figure. Offered with a carved and giltwood frame, some chips.
