Condition

A MEDITERRANEAN HARBOUR SCENE WITH FISHMONGERS AND AN ELEGANT LADY ON HORSEBACK, SHIPPING AND FISHERMEN NEARBY A FORTIFIED QUAY The painting is in fact less yellow in tone and more detailed, especially in the figures group, than the catalogue illustration would suggest. To the naked eye: The painting has been relined (old relining). We notice some small paint losses (at least four): two are located near the left edge, one is visible in the bottom right corner and the last one is on the right edge. The canvas is covered with a nice craquelure pattern. The stretcher mark is visible. Some repaints are visible in the darker area of the sky. Under U.V. light: The U.V. inspection confirms the repaints mentioned above. Also, the varnish layer on the brown horse seems old. We also notice some retouches on the upper and lower edges. Otherwise, the painting is in satisfactory condition and is ready to be hung. A MEDITERRANEAN HARBOUR SCENE WITH FIGURES DANCING AND MAKING MUSIC NEAR AN INN, HORSEBACK, SHIPPING AND FISHERMEN NEARBY A CASTLE-LIKE QUAY To the naked eye: The painting is in a very fair condition and no major paint losses are visible with the naked eye. The canvas is covered with a fine and tight craquelure pattern. Unlike its pendant, there is no stretcher marks visible. Under U.V. light: The U.V. inspection reveals some retouches in the sky area, along the edges and in the barrel on the left. In conclusion, this pair appears to be very decorative and is offered with a carved and gilded wooden frame.
