Provenance
Atelier du peintre Joseph-Bernard Artigue (1859-1936); transmis à sa mort à son légataire, depuis dans la même famille du sud de la France.
Condition
In overall good condition. Her proper right shoulder may have been reattached with minor surface dirt and minor chips to the edges and to the high points. The proper left and right side of her headgear may have been slightly retouched. The joints of the different elements of the mold are visible at several places. Small scratches are visible to her nose. The surface is covered with a light yellow paint.

Catalogue Note
Joseph-Bernard Artigue a probablement rencontré Ringel dans l'atelier d'Alexandre Falguière, à l'Ecole des Beaux-Arts. Ringel a réalisé le portrait en médaillon - en bronze, terre, grès, cire, émail ou pâte de verre - de nombreuses personnalités de son temps. La musique occupa une place maîtresse dans son oeuvre, inspirant notamment ses neuf figure allégoriques des Symphonies de Beethoven ou une autre d'après La damnation de Faust d'Hector Berlioz. Il est également l'auteur de masques et hippocampes en fonte sur la façade du Castel Béranger d'Hector Guimard. Une photographie d'époque de ce buste a probablement été prise dans l'atelier du sculpteur (archives familiales).
