Catalogue Note

This portrait of a young lady reading a prayer book evokes a series of compositions that Maxence painted from 1910 on, such as Serenity, executed in 1912 and kept at the Saint-Croix de Poitiers museum.
A watercolor of the same subject, dedicated to Emmanuelle Cormon, was sold at Sotheby's, Paris, June 26th 2014.
