Condition

In overall very good condition, the bronze is with wear to the patina at several places and surface dirt, notably in the crevices consistent with age and handling. Two fixing holes are visible to the underside where the bronze was attached to a base. There are a few minor dents to the high points, consistent with handling as well.

Catalogue Note

The terracotta bozzetto of the present model, attributed to Bernini, is in the Hermitage Museum (St Petersburgh, inv. no. H.ck-614). Bernini's original marble is in the Church of San Francesco a Ripa, Rome. RELATED LITERATURE
