Description

  • 19.8, 7 7/8  in.
the sides painted to the exterior with eight horses in a continuous rocky landscape, each horse portrayed as galloping, walking or reclining, the interior painted with a central roundel enclosing a landscape, the inner rim decorated with a band of tree pines, each base with a censer in underglaze blue inside a double-circle  

Provenance

A private Northumberland collection, acquired in the 1960s to early 1970s.

Condition

One with a small star crack (approx. 1 x 1 cm) to the interior just above the inner ring, otherwise both in good condition with the exception of minor fritting to the rim and foot for both, and slight surface scratches. Minor firing imperfections include scattered burst bubbles and iron spots in various areas. One with minor areas of glaze inconsistency to the exterior close to the foot.
