Description

  • 44 cm, 17 3/8  in.
modelled in the form of the archaic gu, decorated with the eight horses, their coats painted in underglaze blue, underglaze red, and white slip, all reserved against a celadon-green glazed ground, the base with a leaf motif in underglaze blue

Provenance

A private Northumberland collection, acquired in the 1960s to early 1970s.

Condition

There is restoration to the upper section of the vase covering an area until right above the middle protruding section (approx. 18 cm down from the rim). There are fritting to the rim. Minor firing imperfections include burst bubbles and iron spots.
