Catalogue Note

There is an advert for C. Fredericks & Son, London in Apollo from June 1970 which features an armchair which is possibly ensuite. Also see a mid-18th century given example by Richard Hewett (Nancy Goyne Evans, 'A History and Background of English Windsor Furniture', Furniture History, 1979, pp. 24-53, pl. 84) for comparison. An almost identical mahogany chair, although with scrolled arms, was sold Christie’s London, Important Furniture, 22 April 2004, lot 29.
