Condition
The board appears to be stable. There is some frame abrasion to all four edges, largely not visible in the present mount. There appears to be a small number of restored damages in the upper right corner, and to the right and bottom of the drainer. There is a loss to the upper right of the drainer. There are a number of scratches and scuffs to the surface of the work, including to the drainer. There is some slight cracking to the board, in line with the grain. There is surface dirt throughout and evidence of possible mould, and some accretions and studio matter. This excepting the work appears to be in good overall condition. Inspection under ultraviolet light confirms the presence of the above mentioned retouchings and a small number of further sensitively executed retouchings. The work is held behind glass within a painted wooden frame. Please telephone the department on +44 (0) 207 293 6424 if you have any questions regarding the present work.

Catalogue Note
We are grateful to Philippa Bambach for her kind assistance with the cataloguing of the present work. "Still life was to form an occasional but continuing motif throughout Eurich’s work; he eschewed elaborate set pieces in favour of directness and simplicity, allowing any elaboration of decoration to flow directly from the subject - exemplified here by the exuberant Chinese-inspired decoration of the drainer, an otherwise functional piece of domestic tableware.” (Peyton Skipwith, in Edward Chaney and Christine Clearkin, Richard Eurich (1903-1992): Visionary Artist, London, 2003, p.52)
