Catalogue Note

Gottardo Segantini displays the high valley of the Upper Engadin with the Piz Lagrev in clear autumn light. The steep mountain slopes with gold-coloured larches, the deep blue Lake Sils with its gently waved water and the gnarly sapling in the foreground form a balanced composition. With this landscape painting Gottardo Segantini achieved a colouristic masterpiece connecting symbolism and his father’s divisionism that he had intensively studied.
