Condition
The canvas has been laid on board which is slightly warped. There are abrasions with associated paint loss along the edges. Several vertical and diagonal scratches are running across the sitter's face and scarf below the chin. A couple of further diagonal scratches are visible above the bottom edge to the right of the signature. There is a couple of minor flecks of paint loss scattered in the background. There is an area of media staining to the left of the sitter's cheek as well as a number of dark brown accretions scattered across the sitter's eyes, her right cheek, neck and jaw-line. The surface is covered in a layer of dirt with spots in places and a small pink area of dirt or pigment to the left of her chin. Inspection under UV light reveals no apparent signs of retouching. Held in a gold-coloured wooden frame with decorative mouldings. Unexamined out of frame.
