Condition
Original canvas which is buckling slightly in the lower left corner. There is a patch on the reverse. The tacking edges have been taped and a strip of paper is visible along right side of the top edge. There are frame abrasions with minor associated paint loss along all four edges. There is a pattern of craquelure visible in several areas throughout the composition, notably to the areas with impasto. There are scattered flecks of paint loss and surface scratches. The surface is covered in a layer of dirt with spots in places. Inspection under UV light reveals retouching to an area just below the second boat from the left which corresponds to the aforementioned patch, retouching to the sky and to the lower left corner as well as further minor spots elsewhere. Held in a gilt wooden frame with mouldings. Unexamined out of frame.
