Condition
The canvas has been laid on cardboard which has slightly warped. There is a woodworm hole above the head of the figure on the left and another one in the lower left corner, neither of which penetrate the board fully. Another two small holes are visible on the reverse. The edges are slightly uneven and there are a couple of small losses to the left edge of the canvas. The corners have frayed and there are minor abrasions along the edges. There are scattered surface scratches, abrasions and minor flecks of paint loss in places, most notably to the centre of the right edge. The surface is dirty and the varnish has discoloured. Inspection under UV light does not reveal any obvious signs of restoration. Held in a gilt wooden frame behind glass. Unexamined out of frame.
