signed in Cyrillic and dated '69' t.r.oil on canvas 'If we had perfect eyesight, we would not be able to tell objects apart. We would see nothing else but pure harmony' (the artist quoted in K.Muratova, ‘Vladimir Veisberg. Dvadtsat’ vyskazyvanii’, 2000). The artist’s stripped-back approach to both color and composition was informed to a degree by European post-war abstraction, which Weisberg would have encountered first-hand at the World Festival of Youth and Students held in Moscow in 1957.
Provenance
Acquired by the present owner in the Soviet Union in the 1970s
