signed with initial and dated '67' l.l.oil on masoniteMany of the obscure objects in Krasnopevtsev's paintings were inherited from his clergyman grandfather. His carefully arranged and balanced still lifes have a quasi-monastic sense of calm, as he explains: 'I am certain that contemporary art like none before it demands silence, due to an inevitable and desirable contrast. Majestic, stern, composed, it must awake in us feelings of tranquility, order, permanence, and solidity - everything we lack in this insane, soul-mutilating everyday reality' (the artist in 1988, quoted in Ye.Barabanov, 'Art in the Delta of Alternative Culture').
