A Tabriz rug, Northwest Persia

Overall measurements; 140cm across the top, 142cm across the bottom, 186cm the left hand side, 187cm the right hand side. Not a bright white as in the printed catalogue, a slightly darker cream, colours are slightly darker in general to the printed catalogue. Pile 1-2mm even, closely sheared. Nice quality wool. Finely woven and flexible handle. There are a handful of small 'rust' spots in the field. Mainly in upper left hand quarter and an area where the pile is marginally lower (barely noticeable) around the left hand bird/arrow projection and similarly on the opposite side, There is evidence of old moth trails, which are faint and fine and end in a small circular re-piled sot approximately 8mm in diameter. There are a series of repairs and re-weaves along lower edge, approximately 17, which are evenly spaced and vary in size. The longest 6cm, they are irregularly shaped and widest up to 2cm. A Handful of similar re-weaves in upper end. These could be due to hanging damage or old moth repair. Sidecords re-overcast with warps trimmed to rug. Lower end slightly reduced, by 1cm approx and with trimmed warps. Although work seems extensive the rug is pretty and decorative and in sound, usable, condition.
