Condition

Overall measurements: 167cm across the top, 175cm across the bottom, 288cm the right hand side, 288cm the left hand side. Pile overall is very good, 1cm in depth in places. With multiple wefts. Outer guard stripe right hand side top corner has been rebuilt, approximately 16cm across the top and down to inner guard and irregularly down to 1/2 way across the outer guard stripe with finger shape extending into the inner guard, and continuing into the outer guard which is rebuilt about 80cm down the rug. Another area, to outer guard, approximately 18 by 8cm rebuilt, another, approximately 10 by 8cm, with repair on inner most guard at the point (7 by 7cm), another section of outer guards rebuilt, approximately 45 by 10cm. Further small narrow sections rebuilt on outer most edg, and lower edge is original. Upper edge, with minor restorations to the blue flatweave and bites into the outer guard and two more substantial rewoven areas of irregular shape, in outer guard (12 by 8cm and 15 by 12cm). Left hand side outer guard mainly rebuilt from top edge down to about 3/4 of depth of carpet, with sections restored from there to the lower edge, and lower left hand corner outer guard rebuilt, the lighter blue flatweave which indicates depth of the reweaving in this section. Apart from the edges, clearly damaged and rebuilt, the main filed appears to be in otherwise original condition, apart from three small reweaves in the centre, approximately 6 by 9cm, 2 by 6cm, and 6 by 2cm. Very joyful colour. Attractive piece.

Catalogue Note

"A meaty tribal carpet with happy colours and a simple-looking motif, an abbreviation of the often mentioned, however never explained C-motif, built up by four 3:4:5 triangles in intersection geometry, here turned North. Nevertheless one still can say: I do not know much about it but I do like it" (EH)
