Catalogue Note

These classical courtly works are easily distinguishable through their vivid yellow latticework on a red field. The field design is comprised of layered geometric shapes and these have been broken into three potential sub groups. For a complete discussion on the layering in designs see Pinner. R., 'Multiple and Substrate Designs in Early Anatolian & Mediterranean Carpets', Hali 42, 1988, pp. 23 - 42. The present lot is further distinguished by its relatively uncommon cartouche border on camel tone ground; for an example with this feature see Sotheby's, New York, 25 November 2008, lot 6.
