Description

  • mid-19th century

Condition

Overall measurements: 99cm across the top, 99cm across the bottom, 141cm the left hand side, 139cm the right hand side. Pile approximately 3mm down to knotheads in areas, largely visible from the photograph. Approximately 4cm of upper edge is rebuilt and new plain weave and fringing and with some further re-piling within the stars in the upper border. Lower end with outer zigzag guardstripe approximately 2-3mm rebuilt and new madder flatweave and warp fringing, lower right hand corner tip reconstructed including blue star. Some dark spotting in the lower end of the mihrab, as visible in the illustration, and some spot foundation visible due to oxidisation of dark browns with associated areas of wear. Minor spot re-piling elsewhere. Rug is now in sound and ready to use condition but would probably benefit from a professional clean.
