TWO COMPACTS AND CIGARETTE CASES, HÜBNER, AND A SILVER CIGARETTE CASE, 1960S

Description

The first compact with an embellished thumbpiece set with single-cut diamonds and calibré-cut rubies, measurements approximately 78 x 55 x 8mm, gross weight approximately 91 grams; the second compact of checkerboard pattern, the thumbpiece enhanced with calibré-cut rubies, opening to reveal a mirror, measurements approximately 78 x 60 x 8mm, gross weight approximately 144 grams; the first cigarette case decorated in a fluted pattern, the thumbpiece and side panels set with wood, measuring approximately 65 x 80 x 13mm, gross weight approximately 98 grams; the second applied with stripes of black enamel, the thumbpiece set with circular-cut rubies, both opening to reveal a case engraved Alfonso Alice, each signed Hübner, Austro-Hungarian assay mark for silver, fitted case stamped Hübner; and a silver cigarette case of bi-coloured design, the curved lid and base engraved with a Florentine finish, opening to reveal a plain interior engraved with the name 'Veronika', measuring approximately 151 x 62 x 14mm, Austrian import assay marks for silver, Italian maker's mark, gross weight approximately 151 grams.

Condition

The first and the second signed M. HÜBNER KOHLMARKT and the third signed M. HÜBNER, WIEN I. The first and the third with maker's mark J.R, all with Austrian assay mark for gold, the third stamped 935 for silver, the first and the third engraved Alfonso Alicia. Rubies pinkish red with typical inclusions visible under close magnification, with abrasions to the facet edges. Enamel and wood in overall good condition. Normal scratches to the metal consistent with age and use. Clasps secure. Fitted case stamped HÜBNER WIEN N KOHLMARKT 20 and HÜBNER WIEN respectively. The fourth with maker's mark JR, Austrian assay mark for gold and stamped 935 for silver. Rubies purplish red with typical inclusions visible under close magnification, with abrasions to the facet edges. Diamonds bright and lively. Normal scratches to the metal consistent with age and use and signs of tarnish consistent with age. Clasp secure. Fitted case stamped HÜBNER. The fifth with Austrian assay marks and stamped 925 for silver, stamped 750 for 18 carat gold, engraved Veronika. Scratches to the metal consistent with wear. Clasps secure. Total gross weight approximately 584 grams.
