The canvas has not been lined. There is some minor undulation at the four far edges and hairline craquelure is visible throughout, notably in the upper half of the composition, along with some surface rubbing. There is a circa 3 by 2 cm hole in the canvas in the lower right corner and a minor dent in the fallen tree trunk in the lower right quadrant. The painting surface might benefit from surface cleaning and restoration. Inspection under ultra-violet light reveals a thick layer of residual varnish and no visible sign of restoration.
