Archduke Rainer Joseph of Austria (1783 – 1853; Viceroy of the Kingdom of Lombardy-Venetia from 1818 to 1848); thence by descent
Court painter to Archduke Louis of Austria (1784-1864), Franz Jaschke accompanied the Archduke on his military tour to the Balkans and was subsequently court painter to Archduke Rainer Joseph of Austria.
The canvas has not been lined. There is some minor hairline craquelure, however not distracting. The painting surface would benefit from some cleaning. Inspection under ultra-violet light reveals some possible traces of strengthening in the rocks in the lower edge but otherwise no visible sign of retouching. Overall, this work is in good condition.
