Description

  • Four still lifes with putti, silver vessels, birds, flowers and fruits within classical architectural settings
  • a set, all oil on canvas, unframed
  • each: 144.5 x 228 cm.; 56 7/8  x 89 3/4  in.

Condition

All in fair condition for canvases of this size. The canvases are lined, the paint surfaces are dirty, and the varnishes discoloured and uneven. The canvases show evidence of wear, most notably in the darker pigments, and in the skies. There are visible retouchings to scattered repaired damages, most along the margins, the biggest a horizontal band in the landscape with watermelons (lower right), which is visible from the centre in the peaches and through to the right margin. Inspection under ultraviolet light confirms these and reveals further scattered retouchings throughout.
