Condition
This work is in excellent condition overall. All elements appear stable and well intact. The lantern shows some minor oxidation and a few losses to the pigment which is consistent with the artist's choice of medium and working method and is expected due to the nature of a found object.

Catalogue Note
The child figure is dressed in the artist’s signature Dutch wax fabric, representing the hope and optimism for future generations. The lantern symbolises hope in the wake of advancing medical research. The featured names on the globe are prominent activists, performers or supporters who fought for the rights of AIDS sufferers at the height of the epidemic in the 1980s.
