The complete deluxe Italian portfolio, comprising 365 wood engravings (200 printed in colours) and the original watercolour Hell Canto 11, 1950-1964, Hell Canto 11 signed and dated '1950', one of only 15 deluxe portfolios with the additional original watercolour, illustrated text and suite of 100 wood engravings printed in black and white and a suite of 65 progress proof engravings (aside from the regular edition of 100 wood engravings printed in colours in six volumes), loose (as issued), contained in nine volumes, on Japan paper in the original leather-bound slipcases and protective corrugated cardboard cases  

Condition

Portfolio: The full sheets, in good condition, with occasional fox marks and soft handling creases in the margins, several sheets supported by chalk paper backing, slight surface soiling and wear to the edges of the leather-covered slipcases, only three volumes still with the original control band, the corrugated cardboard boxes gently worn, the box for Inferno I missing its label. Watercolour: The full sheet, in good condition, the paper slightly yellowed, mount-staining along the extreme sheet edges, the verso with residual hinging, stains associated with previous hinging and a partial indecipherable stamp visible upper right corner, unframed.
