Condition

This early print, on semi-glossy paper, has a rich range of tones and delivers a remarkable level of detail throughout. Aside from a few superficial scratches and faint pin-point impressions that are only visible in raking light and that do not break the emulsion, this print is in essentially excellent condition. Faint age-appropriate silvering is visible in the dark areas in raking light. Upon very close examination, there is a tiny loss of emulsion to the tip of the upper left corner and a nearly imperceptible bump to the emulsion along the lower edge. This flush-mounted photograph is mounted again to thick, white, rigid board. It is difficult to date the mount: it is unlike the bright white museum-board typically used by Evans in the 1970s. It is likely that the print pre-dates the board, and was affixed to the mount by Evans after its making. The upper portion of the secondary mount is age-darkened and the reverse is soiled. When examined under ultraviolet light, this print does not appear to fluoresce.
