Condition

Both panels are made up of a single plank, are uncradled, and are flat and stable. The reverse of Winter has a horizontal line of 4 square batons across the bottom third of the panel, and a corresponding old split with associated retouching is visible from the front. Both lower corners of Autumn and the lower left corner of Winter have been reinforced. The paint surfaces are clean and the varnishes are clear and even. There is a slight horizontal surface crack in Autumn in the sky along the upper left edge. There is a small spot of paint loss in Winter to the left of the vase lower left, and the paint is lifting from the panel along the lower right edge. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals retouching in the aforementioned corners and split, as well as further retouchings along the edges of both, but the main compositions appear mostly untouched and in good condition. Offered in carved and gilt wood frames in very good condition.
