Condition
The canvas is lined, the paint surface is clean and the varnish is discoloured and uneven. There are a visible retouchings in the dark pigments of the foreground and background, mostly to reduce the appearance of craquelure. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals these as an older campaign of retouching, which fluoresce more lightly than the newer campaign, which is concentrated lower left, along the edges, scattered in the cherubs and the sky between them, and in the background centre right.
