Description

  • The expulsion of Lucifer
  • oil on canvas
  • 145 x 201.5 cm.; 57 1/8  x 79 3/8  in.

Condition

The canvas has a firm relining, the varnish is clear and even with no major damages visible to the naked eye. The two upper corners appear to have been cut (perhaps for the painting to fit into an architectural setting) and replaced with two square additions, measuring 23 cm. squared. The canvas has suffered a degree of wear in parts, and the blue of Christ's robes is somewhat sunk in the darker tones. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals scattered retouchings throughout, the main concentration of which are in the back of the figure of Lucifer and in the background, lower centre, as well as to the aforementioned additions in the upper corners. In overall fair condition.
